As part of providing online counselling to you, your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional will ask you questions and record relevant personal information to help with assessment and treatment (such as your name, contact information, medical history and history).
Purpose of collecting and holding information
The information that your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional collects from you will be kept securely and, in the interests of your privacy, used only by your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional and the authorised personnel at Mindstar (as necessary).
Your personal information is kept securely in order to document what happens during sessions. This enables your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional to provide a relevant and informed counselling service to you.
Mindstar is aware of the increased needs to protect privacy and confidentiality in an online environment. Therefore, in order to keep your information secure, we ensure that all video communication is encrypted and your data is stored securely. In addition, we will never voice record or video record your sessions.
Disclosure of personal information
Your privacy is very important and your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional will not disclose your personal information to anyone else. We will always obtain your consent if you would like someone else to be involved in your treatment (e.g. your health provider).
The only time your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional will disclose your personal information without your consent is when:
- your file is subpoenaed by a court; or
- your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional needs to access immediate support for you in the case of a medical or psychiatric emergency; or
- your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional needs to access support because they believe that the safety of you or another person close to you is at immediate risk; or
- disclosure is otherwise required or authorised by law; or
- your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional is receiving professional supervision. However, only information that can not identify you will be shared with the supervisor.
If you were referred to or have accessed Mindstar through a corporate program commonly referred to as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), your personal information will not be provided to your employer. Instead, employers will receive the de-identified statistics from Mindstar.
The cost of a 50 minute consultation is set by your Wellbeing & Mental Health Professional. For personal users, fees are deducted from your credit card at the end of the session. For users who have been provided with a corporate code, fees may be paid or subsidised by a sponsoring organisation.
If, for some reason you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, please give the psychologist at least 24 hours notice, otherwise 50% of the full fee will be deducted from your credit card at the end of the scheduled appointment.
